Unsharpened Thermal footage
Publié le 16 septembre 2026

Pretty much all thermal footage you've ever seen was very strongly sharpenned and therefore looked very nasty. However it doesn't have to be that way. The technology of thermal imaging is becoming more and more available in particular since thermal smartphone modules appeared. These little devices come with an app which do have sharpening but thankfully you can use them with different apps. I use mine with a custom app made by a user. This app lets you disable sharpenning completely and also lets you choose between your upscaling algorithm.
This is my infiray T3. It has a resolution of 384 x 288 pixels and plugs directly into a phone.
The app upscales the small resolution and can output files as large as 1080p.
Without sharpenning the thermal images look surprisingly clean and are much more useable for aesthetic purposes.
